For Young Professionals

Therapy for Young Professionals

Your twenties can look like freedom from the outside and feel like pressure from the inside.

Early Career, High Stakes

The first years of a career can carry an intensity that few people talk about. You may be learning a new field, proving yourself to managers, and comparing your progress to peers who seem further ahead. Every decision can feel final, even when it is not. You may be working long hours to establish yourself while wondering whether this is the path you actually want. Therapy can offer a steady place to think, away from the performance that fills the rest of your week.

Who Am I Becoming?

Young adulthood is a time of forming identity: values, relationships, work, and the kind of life you want to build. It can be exciting, and it can also be disorienting, especially if the path you were encouraged to follow no longer fits. You may be separating your own goals from the expectations of family or culture. Therapy can help you explore those questions with curiosity rather than pressure, and make decisions that reflect who you are becoming. Career and life transitions explores related themes.

Anxiety, Comparison and Perfectionism

Constant comparison, whether through social media or professional networks, can make it feel as if everyone else has it figured out. Perfectionism can look like high standards while quietly making it hard to start, finish, or rest. You may feel anxious before meetings, replay conversations afterward, or feel like an impostor despite your accomplishments. We can work with those patterns directly, using CBT and DBT-informed skills alongside a deeper look at where the pressure comes from. Therapy for High-Functioning Anxiety may also resonate.

Relationships, Dating and Belonging

Relationships in your twenties can bring growth and heartache in equal measure. Friendships shift as people move, settle down, or change direction. Dating can raise questions about trust, self-worth, and what you want from closeness. This is individual work that focuses on your experience and your patterns in relationships, and Relationship Patterns describes it further. One of the small groups now forming, Dating Challenges & The Digital Era, focuses on this theme; you can read about it on Group Counseling.

When Home Is Somewhere Else

If you moved to Austin or another Texas city for your first serious job, you may be building a life from scratch: finding friends, learning a new place, and managing independence without the people who used to steady you. That transition can be exciting and lonely at once. A busy calendar full of coworkers and plans can still leave you with very few people who really know you. We can look at what helps you feel at home, and how to build connection that goes deeper.

Setting Patterns Early

The habits you build now around rest, boundaries, money, and the way you talk to yourself can shape the years ahead. Learning to notice stress early, to ask for what you need, and to recover after setbacks is not a luxury. It is part of building a life and career you can sustain. Therapy is a place to practice those skills while they are still forming, rather than after years of running on empty. Therapy for Work-Life Balance looks at this in more depth.
